  • This course uses the Manitoba K-8 social studies curriculum pillars of learning as a foundation for diving deeper into the contextual applications for designing lesson plans for learners. Field experiences and guest speakers with expertise in specific content areas are drawn in.

  • This course provides an overview of the Manitoba K-8 social studies curriculum and advocates for adopting an interdisciplinary inquiry stance oriented around essential questions. Learners are tasked with designing an interdisciplinary unit that leads to a community action project.

  • This course is specifically grounded in the histories and ongoing forces of settler-colonialism in Winnipeg leading into links between colonization and capitalism continue to perpetuate violence against the planet. Learning in, with, from and for place is advocated as a foremost consideration in designing and facilitating student inquiry. Course leans heavily into experiential learning in places.

  • This course blends the extensive theoretical history of 'experience' as it is tied to education, with practical examples from the field. Learners have the opportunity to read and discuss this historical debate surrounding the notion of experience, and how this literature in a Canadian context has evolved to recognize the value of Indigenous ways of knowing.  Learners engage in field experiences, leading to being tasked with to design an experiential learning unit.

  • This course is specifically designed for project-based curious K-12 educators to apply PBL theory to specific contexts and curriculum in their practice. Learners are tasked with designing a series of lesson plans that scaffold student-led inquiry in their classrooms.
